Anyone ever been able to successfully use the eGC thru the app instore? I've tried show card scan at the register & scanned via the rewards QR code scanner 3 different times to never get it to work.

It shows your gift card with last 4 digits and balance. There is no barcode that can be scanned at the cash register. This is for IOS. Not sure if it is the same on Android.

You are right. You can still use the card without a phone. I was mentioning a different issue when 'Show card' option wasn't appearing on my app. It worked fined after reloading the app.
