I bought an off-brand replacement toner cartridge for like $10 on eBay and it's worked as well as the original. So I'm not sure why anyone would ever use the branded toner!

I have both the Brother HL-2240 and the HL-2270DW. Older "brothers", lol, to the 2300. Both have worked well and take the TN-420 or TN-450 toner cartridges, which can often be found very cheaply....

I have a Brother laser that uses TN420 cartridges. I've had good luck with Linkyo brand cartridges on Amazon. They're often on SD here with super low pricing, like $15 for 2.

The D in HL-L2300D stands for duplex. I'm not sure what the other guy is talking about in terms of having to manually flip the paper over to print on both sides. That would not count as a duplex...
