These are higher lumens than hue means brighter.
No need for hub, hue needs hub. IF you think of getting a lot of bulbs no hub can be a bad thing. I would think it would be too much on your wifi....

I made the switch 2-3 years ago and haven't looked back. 800 lumens vs 1100 is a difference. To be honest though, I wish someone would come and make a 1500+ lumen version.
