When I ran my firmware update it told me there was nothing to update. I wonder if these have inconsistent hardware and that's why some work and some don't.

I saw the 100% resolution too. It's interesting that it's not 1440x1440, the actual per-eye resolution. I have mine set down to the closest, which i think is 1476x1476.
