I would probably flip it around, use ORBI for 2.4ghz network devices, since many IoT and smart devices only can has 2.4ghz and not 5ghz, and they may be spread around the house...

Might not be an issue with the mesh system. Try disabling wireless on the laptop and make sure to enable the ethernet port.
