Never heard it on books on tape. I would imagine sci fi in general would be terrible in audio but I always listen while I'm driving. Option 2: it's not for you.

Nope. Depends on your exact problem... But they lose the tight pacing of the original, and don't introduce as much cool stuff. Pretty good if you want more, terrible if you don't.
