You use your CC to buy the gift cards and get 5% back on other things. I use it for my utilities for example.

All the discussions on ink purchasing here make me want to throw up another warning. If you buy ink online they may not credit you for the ink, apparently they drop ship from vendors and fail to code...

But you are also not getting CB when you use purchase GC.
Example: I buy $1,000 in GC from staples to hit CC bonus amount. I then use the GC to pay for $1,000 TV that I am not getting cashback on....
