I've had the $7 version for at least 4 years. It worked w/ my tv using flash drives, and many, but not all hard disk drives. If you intend to use hard disk drives, I would go for a powered USB hub....

I have the 4 port USB 3.0 hub, none of my external drives (most have a power supply) works well with it, very unstable, even the external SSD I have. Works great with flash drives and card readers.
