I've had several Eneloops fail way before their rated number of recharges. I put them in the charger and then the charger starts blinking the charging light to indicate a bad battery.

Some of the best purchases I’ve made have been Eneloop batteries. There’s really no need to buy disposable batteries. I got a bunch of cheap AA to C and D adapters from eBay and I’ve been set.
