Update: I just realized that they added this last part to the FAQ #5 after I started this thread. When I originally created it, it was only the first two paragraphs that I'd quoted in OP. This is...

LOL, once it's out there. It's out there. The only thing you can do is freeze your credit and monitor inquiries. I guess if it gets really bad, and you have ten clones running abound, you can buy...

EXTREMELY WELL SAID, AND this is the sad state of "we the people" have become, exploited and abused with literally zero recourse.

That's why it's going into a fund for future use and not being paid out now. But yeah, I agree definitely an optimistic number. I guess they're hoping the free monitoring prevents any new victims in...

I'll take $125 if i can. If my identity is stolen and something happens down the road, not my problem. Fk equifax and fk ftc! It's their problem not mine. I won't allow them to make their problems my...

Maybe Equifax and the FTC should do their job better, instead of advising people what to do, then we wouldn't be in this mess. The FTC should remember they work for us, not for Equifax.

So after the ten years of free credit monitoring, does my stolen information cease to be stolen? I'm no dealer in stolen information, but why not just sit on the data for ten years? Don't think...

I don't know, I'm pretty sure these law firms work for free until it's paid out. It's not cheap and you have to punish the company somehow for making mistakes.

Even if your identity was stolen, good luck filing a claim with their "insurance". I can only imagine the hoops you would have to jump through to get a settlement.

opting out would be interesting. you reserve your right to sue later. if stuff hits the fan with identity theft, you could get much much more. or nothing.

I have heard of contingency fees of 60%, but even if that's the case, that would leave $280 million unaccounted for (if the attorneys get 60%).
