Thanks, just saved me an extra 5%. I did try adding more points in, effectively adding extra remaining value on GC and it let me, so I'm pretty sure it will just use the GC balance first on...

You do not have to charge anything to the AMEX card. Just use 1 MR point and make sure your gift card balance will cover the remaining of the purchase balance EXACTLY (to the penny).

No. Blue Cash is a cash back card. You need an Amex card that uses points for rewards.
