I think I've seen those adapters and they were like $50-60 bucks. Probably cheaper to buy a lamp at that point.

You'd be better off buying a corded light, converting a high enough amperage from AC to DC will take a lot of power. The only off the shelf solution along these lines I've seen is the 120v adapter...
