Bit-depth, sampling frequency, and signal-to-noise ratio are very objective. Recording sounds is a science in its own right.

No XLR inputs or Phantom power kill this item for me. I'd spend the extra on a Tascam DR-40 or 40x, which has great built in mics, 2 XLR inputs, and Phantom power.

I'm guessing for recording music (personal performances, kids performances, etc), for lectures, etc definitely a higher audio quality than a smartphone would be able to do

Not really. 44.1khz vs 192khz is science. But I get your point. I like how 12 bit sampling sounds
