The Schlage connect series for $179 is not bad. You need a Z-Wave hub (e.g. smartthings) and it also works with the ring alarm (alarm hub is a Z-Wave hub). These don't go on sale very often below...

Yeah when my house was built I had the alarm keypad moved to the front door instead of the garage entry and I now realize I use the garage entry 99% of the time. Ugh.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the lock felt some resistance either opening or closing and it send a jammed signal to Ring. I assumed the jam thing is when you're trying to open/close...

You can buy kits to rekey yourself. It's usually not worth it unless you have a lot of locks to do though. You can bring both the lock you want to use the key from and the new lock to a locksmith...

They are the same as far as how they function. Schlage Connect refers to their Z-Wave models. Only difference in the one in your link on Amazon and the one in my link on HD is the trim style.
