I think you are referring to the old Blackhawk MasterCard GCs. Staples switched to Metabank cards a while ago . Meta cards are not prone to fraud like the Blackhawk ones were.

Just as an FYI, while the ad does not show a limit. The printed sign in-store does say limit one. None of the stores I went to today enforced a limit.

Who was your card issuer? I have easily purchased +$35,000 of mcgc and vgc over the last 9 months on a single card. Never an issue. Only issue is when staples limits me to one per customer!
