I usually transcode once I had the full rip but with how cheap storage is now and how long x265 takes to transcode all of my UHD is uncompressed

Blu-rays are much harder to scratch than DVDs, should be OK. They have a clear scratch resistant coating that DVDs don't have, it's part of the Blu-ray standard.

I had ordered the Mummy set some time back and added it to Vudu, but it only uploaded as HDX. Happened to notice recently that it was now properly labelled as UHD owned.

Check what video codec those are in with MediaInfo (I sent a DM). Sometimes it will be in VP2 instead of h264 and I doubt the RPi has hardware decode support for that. I'd Def look into a Shieldtv....

Shieldtv with Plex as the media server. Direct Play works great and Shieldtv will decode just about anything. The price is certainly worth it. The ShieldTV is one device that does it all.

The Mummy is a great movie set with cheap paper sleeve packaging. I have this set and it's great but I keep thinking I'll scratch the discs putting them back in the sleeves.

Oh sorry it was someone else in DM. Check out a program called MediaInfo. It's portable and will tell you what video format the stream is in. If you get more info I may be able to help. Just DM

Properly made Blu-rays and UHDs shouldn't scratch from incidental contact like DVDs. You would have to take a nail or razor-sharp edge to create a real scratch on the newer formats.
