You can mix different brands. Having the same camera brand just makes it easier for the initial setup. I use Hikvision cameras and it took me awhile to figure out how to set up the first one.

As long as the camera supports ONVIF, it works with Blue Iris. The exception is that do not buy Reolink for Blue Iris even though the manufacture claims it works with BI.
