I've had the spoons for 2 years and have never had either an issue with the magnets or cleaning them in the dishwasher. they've been great, and I just bought this set as well to have another as well...

I take it you've never actually used the OXO set? I haven't either but the description says they have etched markings. "Each cup has permanent etched measurement markings & non-slip handles"

Ours are great... not sure how bad you'd have to treat them for them to rust - or if it was actually rust. I wouldn't buy these regardless of the price - magnets fall out, the numbers come off, etc....
