Can't really tell of they are PAO, just as an example though ExxonMobil Spectrasyn 4 (PAO) has a pour point of -66°C now additives make it worse so I'm used to seeing -49 or something around there...

Autozone drops the price of clearance oil all the way to $1/qt every single year in late December. Problem is the clearance oils are usually all sold out by then.

Correct. They never have clearanced full synthetic oil to $2/quart, and then later reduced it further to $1/quart.

What makes you believe Pentosin is PAO? All I could find is a product data sheet and it showed a pour point of -36°C which seems more Group III to me. PAO is usually much lower.
