The quick heating causes a pressure spike in the egg, causing the cracking or explosion in the microwave. The pressure of the instapot would counter the internal egg pressure

Yeah I just use the metal riser that came with IP too. When it stack them they will crack, but small cracks. how many min do you do for soft and hard boiled? They say don't let the egg touch...

idk. My IP makes perfect soft or hard boiled eggs without any extra accessories, just the metal riser that came with it. Never had one explode, every now and again a cracked one.

I just put the eggs in, cover with water, and cook on high for 6 or 7 mins. Never once had a problem.
