Probably because thats one of the only thing that the average amateurish user can change to your car. The only reason I'd go with full synth is because I can go for longer (5k miles or 6 months)...

I completely agree that for different applications there are different oils AND viscosity. Most newer engines especially Japanese design are being made to be run on thinner viscosity to increase MPG...
