I don't see any rust, but you can tell better than I can.
That just looks like imperfect chroming and/or casting, particularly the last one. I wouldn't be worried about it.

12 point sockets are not acceptable in most cases where a 1/2" socket is needed. There is too much torque required and a 12 pt socket will strip the head of the bolt/nut. Be my guest though.
