X1 Carbon Gen 8 shown at CES last week but with minor improvements. Sounds like they wont have Ice Lake processors, which is what I was really hoping for.

been looking at the x1 carbon gen 6/7 for a while, only thing I don't like is the soldered ram. For me personally the reason I use PCs and not Macs is because I like to customize and upgrade them....

I have Dell laptop (one of the top models) with intel i9 at work (8 gen). It has 90-100 degrees most of the time under low load. May be that was true a couple years earlier. We shall see soon

100% on the Thinkpads. No one comes close. After near a dozen, I’ve never had to use their customer service. But good to know. Nothing is perfect apparently.

It turns out that AMEX flagged the transaction and I tried it 4 or 5 times first and then switched cards so Lenovo flagged it too. I have to call now to re-order

Not sure why you would want to indefinitely wait for that one feature. I don't think the screen is that bad to look at, just because it has some bezel around it. This is still compact for a 14".

I have the same question if the 16GB is dual or single channel. I am not sure until I get the laptop in my hands. For your use case, I don't think dual channel matters.
