That would be the IR cut filter no longer flipping back into place.
The camera should work well* at night still - just issues with the non-IR image during the day.

Haven't had the wifi disconnect problem, but a couple of my gen1s the image has turned pink. They are out of warranty, so basically useless.

I have a 3 gen 1 and few audio ones. If positioned right and setting rules, the lag is not a problem. I use with a base that records to a 64 GB USB. The gen 1 with rechargeables I have last longer...

Just an FYI amazon has plenty of adapter that replace the need for batteries in them. For under $20 you can pick one up and never spend on CR123 batteries again.
