I haven't compared the two, but I went with the 400HX. Very comfortable and sound good. For $65, it sounds like you got a good deal last week considering they are a $99 headset.

If you have a newer (pretty much all of them at this point) controller or the stereo adapter, yes. These just give you better sound quality.

It doesn't mute the TV automatically but you'll have game sound and chat going through the headset. If you're on an Xbox, there's an audio setting to adjust game volume and chat volume.

I use the 500x pro and i hear footsteps. I even hear the sound from the environment like little things turning or metal grinding that i didn't hear before
