You can always get a hose Y connector, attach it to the cold line, then add a short hose with a shut off valve at the end so you can just fill it up on demand without the bucket.

Have had my front loader for almost 15 yrs, no problem with mold, smells..or anything, knock on wood. Wipe the gasket down with a bleached rag from time to time and stop being a lazy POS.

A trick I use is to dump a gallon of water into the load before turning it on. That way when it's weighing all the clothes, it thinks there are a lot more pieces and will add more water to the wash....
