Got the 3/8. Had to go to two stores. But glad I got it. I think just the ratchet along is $15. So this was a great item to throw in the trunk.

1/4" or 3/8" is the approximate size of the square "lug" on the end of the ratchet handle where the sockets are fastened. The smaller 1/4" is for smaller sized bolt heads while the 3/8" sockets...
