You're at most lifting 1/2 a car with a jack. Even with that conservative estimate, a 1.5 ton jack can safely work on a 6000lb car, which is more than what a new Ford F150 weighs for reference.

Harbor Freight makes excellent floor jacks, like the Daytona. They cost more than $40, but a good quality floor jack will last a lifetime, and it's so much easier to use.
