1080p on a 27 inch monitor looks awful. Just my opinion, but do your self a favor, and go with 1440p display. That's where the sweet spot is at the moment.

I've got a 1080p projector on a 120" screen, 10.5ft view distance. Works pretty good. It's like sitting a foot away from a 22" monitor.
