I think you only need a My Nintendo account, which is free to make. You can link your nintendo online info afterwards, or in your case just buy the controller.

Unless they’ve updated it since I bought one, the SN30 lacks R2/L2 buttons so you can not trigger the menu or rewind options in the SNES app. Not an issue with the SN30 Pro

Nintendo had colored button controllers in the US as well. I have one of the transparent ones from when I was a kid, and its officially licensed by Nintendo.

You don't need a Switch, but you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is $20 a year. This is only available to subscribers.

For games like Mario Maker / Smash etc not so well, for regular platformers they're ok. They're especially nice on the SNES/NES games.
