Or could go full Navy berthing and build the L shape into the bookcase where they sit inside it to read. That way their weight is supported by the bottom of the case and the floor. A literal nook.

These are $26 on alibaba. I don't really trust these bookcases that are always rebranded online. the particle board is way too thin and from the reviews looks like they break way too easily
