A brad nailer is not really meant for baseboards, casings, or crown molding. That's finish nailer territory. The brad nailer may work, but the heads are much smaller. If the trim is never touched...

I would never mess with those adapters for the reasons you stated. Plus if you know how to SlickDeal, you could've gotten a new Ryobi battery, nailer and charger for about the same price or lower...
