The air filter lasts longer because its filtering capacity is lower than an OEM type filter. It's letting a lot more through that other filters would actually filter out. How else do you think K&N...

For the cartridge filters, I'd avoid the Pure One filters. I've had media separation at the endcaps before. This was before Mann bought Purolator, however. I would avoid it just in case of old stock...

When I was young I thought K&N were the best. But after tearing some down, I will no longer buy them for their cheap filter material and rusty insides. Wix or Mobil 1 by a long shot.

For my VW that has a cartridge filter, the filtering media seemed to be fine, but the filter was "hourglassed" when I removed it after ~6,000 miles...it lacks the structural integrity of the OEM...
