Eh, look at the specs I have on that. You can definitely build one half that price. Plus this is an 8-bay setup. Find an 8-bay NAS setup, you'll be spending about $800+.

It can provide a pretty good cloud server for your docs, perhaps slightly more fiddly than Dropbox, but it will definitely do the job. As for Plex, it depends on how intensely you'll want to use it....
