You don't use them to wash the car with, you use them to dry it or as buffing cloths for wax. If you wash the car with these, they trap dirt and dirt will cause swirl marks. So technically, it wasn't...

It’s recommended you wash these prior to using them. No fabric softener or bleach. They make detergent specifically for microfiber towels that works great. Wash in cold water and low heat when drying.
