Mesh is used for holes/cracks in drywall. Tape is not only more affordable but easier to use and seamless.

Mesh is faster. Just needs two coats. Paper needs three coats. I always wonder why they don’t make sticky paper tape so you only need two coats

honestly if your doing your own drywall go with the mesh tape its significantly stronger for the joints. Probably the reason this is on sale.

In my experience, even if drywall on the ceiling is hung with screws and adhesive, if there is a weight carrying/living space above, mesh tape doesn't last. Joints will crack through after settling....

I've taped a lot of joints and by far the best is called "Crack tape". Home depot sells it online. It is super strong, doesnt splinter like mesh, and goes in really easy. Yes it's much more expensive...

Drywall tape is just a roll of narrow paper. No adhesive at all.
