when you unzip the cover, the thickness of the layers should be obvious. the thickest layer should be on the bottom, and thinner layers on top

I confirmed it via their official Casper.com website chat. It's the same with the original "the Casper" with 2" more in foam. No cooling Gel foam technology though.

I was previously sleeping on a Spa Sensations (Zinus) memory foam mattress which was significantly softer. It was advertised as medium as well. I have no issues with heat.
