Slickdeals effect! Each post I read gets me closer to pull the trigger on this one, running a titan rtx via amplifier on an r17 alienware which is great for vr presentations at client offices but not...

How fast of a cpu do you need? I'm running an i5 7600k and a 1070ti.....sounds like this mofo is cpu hungry
Post #135370553 added 03-05-2020 9:55 PM by Ozzforester in Deal Talk
Yes, tb3 to pcie adapters priced too high, instead of buying one I'd rather invest that money on a sff pc

fyi: my old 6700k paired with 2080ti works fine. CPU doesn't seem to be the limiting factor these days.

Can I use this on a valve index headset?
Post #135373925 added 03-06-2020 6:30 AM by Danimal86 in Deal Talk
Thanks for the info, how much cpu usage like when playing? I'll give it a try and see if my cpu is fast enough.

Generic, but well known one, that I have since forgotten the name of. As in, not made by HTC. Avoid them and go with the official one, according to him.

I've had both. The only thing the Vive Pro has over the Index is black levels. Everything else is superior on the Index. I'd go for that. The black levels were a big disappointment coming from the...

A friend of mine in the JoinUsInVR steam group (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/JoinUsInVR) tried a generic one, then got this REAL HTC one, and said there was a HUGE difference between the two. So...

Yep realized that after ordering this won’t work with a gaming laptop 😐
Post #135364880 added 03-05-2020 4:30 PM by sknight398 in Deal Talk
Big FYI - you need to install a physical PCI card onto your motherboard to use this. Not difficult, but make sure your mobo has a slot available.
Post #135365981 added 03-05-2020 5:24 PM by MinkuDu in Deal Talk
This is true. Won’t work with a gaming laptop. However, this will work even without a free pci-e slot with a free M.2 slot using a M.2 to PCI-e adapter. This is the setup I have going for my two...

Me. Works great.

Yup, no problems here. Image quality is not affected. Wireless VR is a big step. Need lighter headsets next.

I tried this out a while back, i7-6700k on win7, 1080 with a Vive pro. Didn't work very well. Now I've got a 3900x 1080ti on win10 and am tempted to try it again. If I remember right the Pro...

Looks like it’s out of stock online now and none within 100 miles of me. Wish I would have seen this last night!

Crap it's out of stock online....but found them "Used - Like New" condition at amaz warehouse for $188 and some change. Trying that out, hopefully no issues.

There are no generic ones. There is the third-party TPCast and this. I've used both, and this is far superior.

I can't speak to the pro as I have the original vive but I'm running the wireless on mine with a Ryzen 5 2600 and a 1070ti and it works flawlessly.

A generic one, or something at the end cap at Wal-mart. Seems a big difference

Holy cow. Gpu matters more than cpu. 9700k is more than sufficient - gpu and ram has the biggest impact on experience.

These are normally 300 for a reason, this price is pretty darn good. I would second this because if there are any issues with the wireless you will get motion sick really quick.

Anyone have actual experience with this on the Pro?
Post #135364460 added 03-05-2020 4:10 PM by NervousGazelle290 in Deal Talk
I have it with vive pro, works great, but you'll need a powerful CPU for the pro.
Post #135364604 added 03-05-2020 4:18 PM by BLToday in Deal Talk
Define "powerful" CPU. Are we talking about Ryzen 3900X+? I'm looking to build decent VR setup for my next build.
