Possibly because in the product photos it displays some sort of adapter to connect the extension. Previous extensions I’ve used do not use this so maybe it’s new altogether.

These are the 2nd generation modes with limited colors. The 3rd generation are able to display lots more colors. 2nd generation aren’t dimmable if I remember correctly as well
