Nice to see LTE modem deal. Debating this as a backup. The MR1100 knighthawk is capable of twice the speeds (300 down) and used ones can be found on eBay for a little more than this.

Get a cheap hosting box, set vpn on it. Have your cell connection go through vpn, you'll have static ip for $5 a month, or even less.

Most modern devices come with network switching anyway, so as soon as the regular modem's speed/signal strength drops below the LTE one, they should switch automatically

Yes they're typically NAT'd but some carriers have static IP offerings (usually req business package), it's just been a few years since I've looked into it. ATT used to provide them for a one time...

I use a TMobile SIM in this exact device that was meant for a tablet. It's a unlimited data SIM for $20 a month and I've used it extensively to stream dozens of GBs without any issue.

Yes, set the correct apn and ttl to 65 I believe to bypass hotspot usage vs on device usage.

I do the same with the same equipment and it works really well. I'm on Google Fi, so the data SIM doesn't cost any extra and I don't pay for data unless I use it.
