We have used this a lot and have no issues with power or reliability. The ice cream never gets hard enough for torque to be an issue.

If you have a Kitchenaid mixer, I recommend getting the ice cream bowl/paddle for it. Takes up a lot less space than a standalone ice cream maker, and I trust the motor in my mixer to last damn near...

Depends on what your trying to make. We make lemon sherbet with lemons, milk and sugar. Mango sherbet with mangos, water and suger, For ice cream, we use heavy cream and milk.
