I'd have to guess other firmware was flashed. And that the resultant empty S/N is due to an improper flash or deliberate. I also say it's a real V40.

If it is the OEM unlocked version which I think it is, It should work with no issues. I am currently using the LG G8 unlocked Alexa version on Total Wireless with no issues.
