Except not even close to as interesting as the narrative of Genesis. More like the census found in the first chapter of Numbers but expanded for 300+ pages.

It's a must read for Tolkien fans, kind of like the Bible is for Christians. Think Genesis but in middle Earth.

I'm not sure if you knew this but J. R. R. Tolkien was a devout Roman Catholic. He had a significant factor in C.S. Lewis' conversion from atheism into Christianity. The entire Lord of the Rings...

Good book overall. Gives the whole backstory of how the world started and goes through Sauron’s rise to power. Fascinating read (albeit dense at times) but if you’re a fan of the lotr it’s a good bit...

Read the comments. The book is basically a chronology of the history of middle earth. Very dry.

Unfortunately, the Silmarillion is not even as good as being dense like trying to read the Bible. It's more like trying to read the especially tertiary and obscure genealogies in the Bible. This...

I didn't read Silmarillion till I was 41. It read well then and I can see how it would be very dense when younger. A bit of life experience is needed on this one prior to.

This sums up exactly how I felt, I was also in high school at the time. I could not get into this book. For perspective I've read hobbit/LOTR several times over. Love those books.
