Yes, that's the one. I have the 50 f/1.8 (the new one) - it's also great, but 35mm is easier to shoot kids - you have to be a bit far away with a 50mm on a DX camera.

Yep, but it can still miss focus depends on your body. The customer service always asks me to bring my stuff in to take adjustment or ask what body I'm using.
