This model?? haven't seen anyone else have issues with HDMI on this receiver. Onkyo had HDMI board problems several years ago but by most reports that is not an issue with their receivers since.

You can pass compressed atmos via arc. And connecting a bluray player directly to the reciever eliminates any need for eARC since its a downstream connection

Depends on your needs. If you need the newer features of the Onkyo, then yes. Otherwise that Denon should have a superior amp and power supply.
