I used extremes to make a point, a point that you totally missed. The average of house temps is 70F, that means there are some that are 74 and some as low as 65. Someone keeping their house higher...

i think it is obvious that if you keep tropical fish in unheated garage you need higher wattage heater. My room temperature is 68-70 and I do not need anything higher than what I listed. You do not...

not to pick on you directly, there are a few responses like this one, but its totally incorrect. The wattage of heater really has little to do with the volume of water and far more to do with how...

I have 100 watts in 55 gallon. 50 watts in 30 gallon tank. Better go lower so you have time to shut it down when it gets stuck turned on. I am still advising temp controller for around 30 bucks.

I agree. Go small. I had a heater failure while I was away for a few days. Came home to an aquarium at 100f.

I'm right now using a 150w heater for my 5 gal baby tank and it still works fine, except it looks ginganic in the tank. As another SDer mentioned, as long as it does not malfunction and boil the tank...

I can't speak for the 100W but I'm 0 for 5 on the 300W heaters in this line. 2 out of the box would not power on at all. 3 failed after 1-3 weeks.

The thermostat is a starting point, aside from that they are useless. That goes for all aquarium heaters. that dial is never correct because they are mass produced using a single spec and assume the...

I'd err on the smaller side. Common failures for heaters are power loss or faulty temperature sensor. With the former, your tank drops 10-15 degrees. With the latter you fish get hot. If you get...

Bigger than one really needs for a 10 gallon but not too high a wattage, it will heat the tank to a set temp but a higher wattage will simply do it faster. Also consider that a 100W is physically...

I picked up the fluval flex 15 gallon deal, would this be a good heater or too high of wattage? In the reviews a lot of people talk about inaccurate temp settings too.
