It's not that cut and dry. For starters, I bet most consumers put WD Red or similar disks in their NASes, which are 5400rpm (need to step up to Red Pro for 7200 at a significant premium). With that...

Yes that's the case here, even speeds are giveaway since neither is above 600 MB/s. But for example my Motile M-141 unlike its better brother M-142 doesn't support NVMe in its main slot but SATA...

No, not really. Maybe it has a lot to do with what @darkguy2 mentioned. I'm not on a 10G network.

Good catch! Yes it's SATA III. It shows 2 keys in the edge connector. NVMe has 1 key.

I don't understand how an SSD can be optimized for use in NAS? Maybe they are tolerant of higher heat for systems without good airflow? From Newegg's description:

The only thing I found is this supports HZAT and DRAT which some SSDs do not (who knows which ones). For NAS you would want that though.

NAS cannot really take advantage of NVMe drives. Most people are connecting to their NAS over a gigabit connection. This limits the max speed to 125 MBps. A 7200 RPM HDD is already around 120 MBps so...
