I toasted a shop vac using it on ash; got in the bearings. Some manufacturers sell finer filters for such debris, so it could be that your filter is just "good".

I did not see the usefulness of this setup until,I started dealing with woodworking sawdust and the potential cost of replacement filters. Then it became my #1 priority.
