If that’s the case there are plenty m.2 options out there for $100, but not all m.2 are the same. You should be really paying attention to write/read speed and latency as well

I can confirm on Thinkpad P53, the M2 slots take both NVME AND SATA drives. Pulled an old SATA M2280 ssd off P50 and put it in P53. Win10 showed extra drive upon startup.
