I enjoyed these as a kid. Agree that this isn't as good as his others. I appreciate the tempo vs LotR. Wishsong was my favorite. Scion Capital was named after his books...

I enjoyed these books as a teen. It's interesting to read them now and compare how I imagined it then vs now. It's quite different. I personally enjoy Terry Brooks writing because it paints a picture...

I wanted to pick this up, but didn't because people said the annotation was really obnoxious in this edition.

Wishsong was my first book from a book sale. I loved it so much, I read everything he has ever written. I bought the hardback of each book when it came out with my birthday money. I just need the...

These were the first fantasy books I read in Jr. High, and I loved them. I later read LOTR, and then re-read Elfstones and realized what a wholesale rip-off these are of LOTR. If I recall correctly,...

I agree with those who believe this has not aged well. It was a fun read 40 years ago, but even then it felt pretty derivative. That was fine given the limited amount of high fantasy fiction that...

I read a lot of his books including this series as a kid growing up in the 90's. I couldn't have afforded to read all the books I read as a kid without the help of the Pomona Public Library. I was...

Terry Brooks is an amazing author. Highly recommended.

I would not recommend this book to anyone. This is a very, very poor imitation of the LotR.

The Sword was such a laborious read. I put it down so many times. Finally, I finished it. I really wanted to like Terry Brooks, after I had purchased several and been given many others. I picked up...

Plus he went on to create many trilogies set in the same universe. It's too bad that he is bringing the world of Shannara to a close with his latest books.

I liked S1 of TSC but S2 was a mess. Fully agree. S1 was great. Good build up and really got me into the story. I had never heard of this series until the show and still have not read the books....

I have read many MANY of the Shannara books and it's clear that Brooks was really testing the waters with this book. The next two in the series (Elfstones and Wishsong), however, are MUCH better. ...

It's a strange that the show was cancelled because MTV opted for a cast that looked better than it could act. It's a good story.

I agree. I loved the first season and i was pumped for the 2nd but it fell completely flat. It felt like the first season was finely tuned and polished and they just winged it for the 2nd season lol.

I really enjoyed reading Brooks, Eddings and Tolkien in the late 80’s. They really helped me develop a love of reading. I still read daily today.

The first season was good (I noticed that it was written by the same guy who wrote Marvel's Iron Man-- no wonder), but the second season went downhill fast. That's probably why it was cancelled.
